- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.1Wonderful - What previous guests thought, 89 reviewsWe had a wonderful stay at Mziki Cottage on Penwarn Farm. The cottage sleeps seven (2 rooms with double beds, and a loft with 3 beds). It is perched it a lovely little valley and overlooks a dam that teems with birdlife. The view is great, with the majestic Drakensberg mountains in the distance. Inside, the cottage is beautifully appointed and has everything you could possibly need. Each bedroom and bathroom has its own heater, and the lounge is just as cosy, with a fireplace that warms the entire living area. One of the bathrooms even has a jet bath - perfect for a long soak after a day outdoors. The staff were friendly, welcoming and efficient. The cottage is serviced daily, which made it feel like a real break. We especially loved the verandah, where we spent hours just soaking in the view with a coffee or glass of wine in hand. There's a great braai area and even a ready-to-go bonfire -stacked with wood and just waiting to be lit. Honestly, every detail has been thought of. We didn’t want to leave!Guest review byCherylSouth Africa

Electricity cut of many times during our stay due to the switch tripping. Drain clogged in shower. Carpets not vacuumed but only swept with a broom, which was evident in our continuous sneezing upon entering the room. Geyser switch tripped on checkout day and therefore we could not shower in our room. Rooms need to be better maintained and cleaned.Guest review byDevadasaSouth Africa - 8.0

There are several resorts and a number of smaller accommodations in this picturesque valley, a hotspot for nature lovers and hiking enthusiasts. It is close to the famous Sani Pass, where 4X4 enthusiasts can ascend one of the highest and most scenic trails in Southern Africa. The town has charming shops and eateries, and many of the resorts offer a host of activities, restaurants and outdoor adventure options.Guest review byT_M_S_MSouth Africa - 10.0

Unpretentious town with several excellent restaurants (the Whistling Goat had the best food and the best prices)...with a Spar supermarket just down the road in nearby Underberg (15 miles/27 km.) For BIRDING and BIRDERS: exceptionally good for rare species (Flufftails - contact Stuart McLean [has a web site] for best bird guiding especially if you have your own vehicle. Many different habitats in the area...and the birds up at Sani Pass - many Drakensberg specialties. Having been north to bird at Wakkerstrom and the giant marshes in town and that area, we can say that Himeville is just as good (with many overlap species...and many only found at Sani Pass). Himeville has better restaurants and is 20-30% less expensive than Wakkerstrom. We had a wonderful time here.Guest review byrdcnyUnited States - 10.0

We had such a lovely time, from the accommodation, the staff, the food and surroundings were great. The only problem we had was that our shower was leaking in the bathroom, and the whole bathroom was under water. but the staff moved us to another room, the shower did not leak, but all the tiles was loose in this bathroom as well. Just think the bathrooms needs some maintenanceGuest review byRenetteSouth Africa - 8.0
Potholes are ridiculous getting to underberg.
Potholes are ridiculous getting to underberg. So many & close to each other. Definitely cause damage to your car tires / rims. Once to get to underberg, spar and other stores are convenient. Being close to the berg is beautifulGuest review byDewlal - 10.0

Himeville is ideal to get to Cobham the entrance to the Drakenberg park. Our stay was too short we had 2 nights due to delayed flight, plan at least 3 if not 5. Nice quiet place, great pizza place "The Grind" in Underberg just done the road (petrol station here too) missed out on local shops as we were walking in the park. Lovely local arts/craft/cafe "Giant Cup Cafe" at Sani Pass road got all my holiday crafts/gifts here. Great walks with easy to follow trails.Guest review byJennyUnited Kingdom - 10.0

It was my second time visiting this place and still enjoyed it. The kids enjoyed the activities offered at the property and the adults loved the hiking routes and the flowing river which was very refreshing. We even discovered a nice swimming spot along the river and we had a blast swimming there. The pool area is also very entertaining for the whole family. Breakfast and buffet supper was okay but could be taken a notch higher - on the other hand the pizza's were delicious.Guest review byTumi MorapediSouth Africa - 8.0

It was the most plesant surprise - Underberg and especially Himeville was the cherry on the cake. The views of the Drakensberg is spectacular. Underberg has all the shops you need to buy groceries. Himeville and the lake just outside the town and the museum is a definate "Must" We had a picknic at the lake. Also used the local tour company to go up Sani Pass - what an experience. Words cannot describe the beauty and the experience we had. In Lesotho we visited a local lady, where our guide gave us a talk on their culture and we ate a nice hot "potbrood" The Highest pub in Africa was closed, but we had a great buffet lunch at a local restaurant in Lesotho. - Highly recommend to visit this jewel hidden in the Drakensberg. We went in the beginning of May and the autom colours was beautifull in all the different coloured oak trees.Guest review byLindaSouth Africa
