This place was an unexpected surprise. From the get go, the service was absolutely amazing. The room was spacious, decent view, great air conditioning, plenty of outlets as well to charge devices, and they even brought up our luggage that we had delivered from Sapporo for us.
We were able to also book a private open air onsen as well with the option of sake. It was an amazing experience. We choose to have dinner from the hotel and it was amazing to. It did not disappoint.
This was my first Ryokan onsen experience and I loved it.
Kusatsu
Built in 1913, the Kusatsu Hotel exhibits the architectural style of the Japanese Taisho Era. Guests at the hotel can unwind in the indoor or outdoor public hot spring bath, a Private Hot spring or the soothing footbath. Fabulous Hotel. Was the most traditional feel of the hotels we visited. Set menu breakfast was typically Japanese and staff were so good to us. The room was massive with some lovely touches, paper interior windows, Japanese style flooring. The Onsen was fabulous and everything in the town was short walking distance.

Our stay was amazing! Everything from staff to location to food was great! You can’t beat the location within mountains next to a beautiful river! Onsen facilities were gorgeous! Staff all spoke English perfectly and were extremely thoughtful and kind! They even called me on our way there to make sure we can make it to the dinner!

Offering free WiFi, Ryokan Tamura offers accommodation in Kusatsu, 600 metres from Kusatsu Nettaiken and 2.1 km from Kusatsu Kokusai Ski Resort. Popular points of interest around the property include Yubatake and Kusatsu Onsen. I really loved the whole experience at Ryokan Tamura. I felt very relaxed and pampered since dinner and breakfast was served, and we loved using the onsen. We asked for vegan food, and they informed us that the broth may contain dashi, but for us that was ok. The food was delicious and we got to try some of the traditional Japanese cuisine consisting of mainly vegetables. There were men only and women only onsens, and two private onsens. The water was super warm and relaxing. The staff was also very welcoming and nice and spoke english.

The location is a ways out of Takaseki, but well worth the trip. It is in a peaceful valley and next door to their beautiful temple. Our host, the monk of the temple, was kind enough to guide us through the temple and even gave us an opportunity to meditate there. Very special. A truly beautiful experience and lovely place to stay.
Tasty and varied breakfast with lovely view outside; very friendly and helpful staff; large room with comfortable bed; outside of central town, yet easy to reach on foot (also train station). Kusatsu is a lovely town, a great place to get away from the summer heat. Wonderful onsen!
The whole setting and the hot spring is very beautiful and relaxing. It was a wonderful way to recover from a long journey and get over jet lag before embarking on our tour of Japan
Incredible scenery, the onsen is breathtaking. We were here during the summer, it must be even more incredible in winter times. The staff were also very friendly and caring. We stayed in a river side main building room, the calm and quiet with nature's sound was so relaxing
We spent a magical experience in Takaragawa onsen ryokan. My boyfriend even proposed to me in the rotenburo - he's now my fiancee. Thank you for this.
Nice and relaxed place. I really liked the Onsen and the superieur terrace room that was quiet, also thanks to the respectful Japanese guests. Very kind staff especially the young lady from Sri Lanka, but all of them did their best to make my stay as pleasant as possible and I stayed for 7 nights! Very good bed and bedding and an easy walk to the charming village of Shima Onsen with numerous restaurants and cafés.
My wife and I were a little suspicious about this "Love" hotel (adults only), but it offers nothing but luxury: King size bed, jacuzzi and private terrace. The complementary breakfast was delivered to our room. Very clean, spacious and quiet room. Friendly and helpful staff. Highly recommended!
We enjoyed the mixed-gender onsen, it was perfect for our honeymoon. The kaiseki-style breakfast and dinner was unique, fresh and delicious. The traditional style rooms were beautiful, comfortable and relaxing. We especially enjoyed the riverside view from our window.
Wonderful stay, just right to relax for a bit. Great traditional food, lovely rooms, amazing landscape. And the hot baths are great to relax. Personal is always there to help and very friendly.
