Surrounded by lush greenery, Mampei Hotel offers free WiFi and free on-site private parking. JR Karuizawa Station is a 10-minute drive from this non-smoking accommodation. Kumobaike Pond can be reached via an 8-minute car ride. From the moment of arrival to drop off at train station, top class treatment throughout. It’s a historic, well-established hotel nestled in a quiet forest catering to celebrities and well-heeled travelers since 1894. Service and meal offerings were spectacular; the rooms modern and well-appointed, on par with any four-and five star hotels. Something that really caught my attention was the cushioned floors in the room; walking on them gave a level of comfort I’ve not felt at other hotels. And end your day at the iconic bar where John Lennon entertained those gathered on that piano when he stayed here.

A lot of variety the breakfast and dinner, all japanese style. It was in an amazing location only 2 minutes away from the station. The staff were so lovely and friendly. The room was spacious and gorgeous ryokan building in general. We had got to use the private onsen which was unbelievably relaxing. We also booked a traditional dinner which I would recommend, totally worth the price and quality was insane. Overall love this place and, would visit again.
The rooms were beautiful. The staff incredibly attentive. And the private meals were amazing. Having our own Onsen in our room was a wonderful luxury. Though not extremely close to Nagano (an hour by train), the location is close to the train station to Nagano (a 10 minute walk) and very close to the Snow Monkey Park (a 15 minute ride) and mountain towns like Shibu. A lovely time - well worth the splurge.
The hotel was beautiful and the staff lovely. Very relaxing and comfortable.
The location was good with a free car park and quiet surrounding area. We travelled by car so it was very convenient to go anywhere from there. The room was clean with a hammock to relax. There was a coin-operated washing machine in common area with detergent. The kitchen was very good. The owner was so kind and gave my children small lovely chocolate chunks. We enjoyed our 3-night stay so much.
We like the tatami floors everywhere including the hallways and the elevator. We like everything. Best accommodation we stayed in Japan. Relaxing. Good value. And also the complementary hot/cold drinks, yakult in the morning, soba in the evening, and ice block/ ice cream on stick after the hot bath was lovely. Really nice view and facillities we’ll come back again. Very friendly staff too. Thank you! We enjoyed our stay 😊❤️
It's a beautiful place for relaxing. The beds are super comfortable. The staff are friendly and helpful. The room arrangement is lovely yet modern. The hot bath and breakfast are highly recommended.
We loved the friendly and helpful hosts, the dinner was amazing and the baths were lovely and relaxing :)
Handy location to the main Snow monkey area you can walk to it from there. Lovely relaxed atmosphere. You can get a key from there for the Onsens and they provide a map English speaking staff Free ride to station!!
Simple but very homely place, spacious room and great value for money overall with a great onsen to relax in. Kindly upgraded our room and explained everything about lift passes and the shuttle. Fun and comprehensive breakfast options!
