Honestly, I expected discrimination since the hotel was quite far from tourist attractions. Unsurprisingly, there were only Japanese guests as far as we could tell. However, the receptionists were all extremely helpful, professional, and friendly above all. I am from Taiwan and can only speak broken Japanese, yet they didn't treat me differently at all during my stay: unlike some of the restaurant and hotel staff members I had unfortunately encountered elsewhere despite trying not to speak English. Here's the icing on the cake. My wife accidentally forgot a personal item that her late father had left her, because I got the checkout time wrong and had to leave in a hurry. I immediately contacted the hotel, but we were already in a different city far from Gifu. They offered to send the item to our next destination free of charge even though I insisted on paying. We liked that there was a couch and a table inside the rooms. Most restaurants around are already closed by 7 so it was great that the restaurant in the hotel is open until 10PM. All the staff were cheerful and courteous. And the breakfast was sumptuous.

The staff is very helpful, the thermal bath available in the hotel is very nice, the room was spacious and cozy, with a window outlooking the mountains. We also liked that the hotel encourages guests to choose eco-cleaning of rooms (without sheets replacements etc) by gifting soft drinks coins for the choice. We find full daily cleaning unnecessary and not environmentally friendly, so we appreciate the gesture.
