Located just 38 km from Shiroyone Senmaida, Noto Hyakurakusou features accommodation in Ogi with access to an open-air bath, a garden, as well as a lift. There is an on-site restaurant, plus free private parking and free WiFi are available. The ryokan provides sea views, a terrace and a 24-hour front desk. It was a long drive up the Noto Peninsula and we had to drive along a narrow road through a short stretch of forest before we were pleasantly surprised by the beautiful facade of the hotel. The entire stay was a pampering experience. The view from the room was amazing. Both dinner and breakfast were exquisitely prepared and served in private rooms. We had a 50 min private bath which was extremely soothing. There were small zen gardens, libraries in a corner, and cupboards full of yukatas of different colors and designs. These were very pleasant to the eyes. I also liked how courteous and attentive the hotel staff were.

Set in Nanao and only 13 km from Notojima Glass Art Museum, TAOYA Wakura offers accommodation with sea views, free WiFi and free private parking. This 3-star ryokan offers a 24-hour front desk and a lift. The ryokan features a hot spring bath and full-day security. The place feels fresh after recent renovations. We had never experienced an Onsen, and in fact didn’t realise we were booking an all inclusive holiday at an Onsen hotel. But it was a cultural immersion experience like no other. We lived a tiny slice of an integral part of Japanese culture that Westerners don’t usually experience, and we felt both welcomed and privileged. It was brilliant.

Set in Himi and only 1.7 km from Kozakai Beach, Umiakari offers accommodation with sea views, free WiFi and free private parking. This 4-star ryokan offers a 24-hour front desk and a lift. Guests also enjoy access to the hot spring bath and spa facilities, as well as the public bath and open-air bath. The building is obviously aged, and we were concerned what the room might be like when we first saw the carpets in the corridors (which need an upgrade) but were pleasantly surprised with the room given previous ratings and reviews. The traditional dinner was an amazing experience. Customer service wonderful.

Eihokaku has sea views, free WiFi and free private parking, set in Himi, 36 km from Toyama Station. Built in 1960, this 3-star ryokan is within 39 km of Toyama-kō and 44 km of Notojima Glass Art Museum. The ryokan features family rooms. This is an older hotel (built in the 1930s, if I remember correctly) that’s been beautifully renovated it still has that old charm but is super clean and comfortable. The room was huge with an ocean view. I stayed on a Tuesday night, and despite the size of the hotel, the onsen was quiet and relaxing. There’s both an indoor and an outdoor bath facing the ocean. At night there were only four people including me, and in the morning I had it all to myself. WIFI was a bit slow on my phone but worked well on the laptop. Breakfast was mostly Japanese dishes, and you can heat up some items on a small charcoal grill, which was a nice. The staff were very kind, and there are English signs throughout the hotel. Himi itself is a beautiful, peaceful city that I’d definitely return to,and I’d stay at Eihokaku again for sure.
