Kusatsu
Located in Kusatsu in the Gunma region, Oyado Yukizumi provides accommodation with free WiFi and free private parking, as well as access to a hot spring bath. This 3-star ryokan offers luggage storage space and a housekeeping service. This little Ryokan-style hotel was so nice that I missed it very much after leaving Kusatsu Onsen. I have stayed in a total of 14-16 hotels all over Japan by now (over the years) and this is easily one of the best (if not the very best). I appreciated the vegetarian breakfast very much: it was very elegant as well as nutritious. They also checked the ingredients with me. The wide Tatami mat area exceeded expectations: I could relax with panoramic views of the snow capped mountains while dining or just working (digital nomad-ing was easy with fast wifi). There were many drawers and cupboards: storage space was never an issue. The Toto Smart toilet was more advanced than those variants in 5-Star hotels. The hotel is proximate to all the important places and just opposite the bus stand: I only just had to cross the road with my luggage. I also discovered multiple short routes to Yubatake every single day (I stayed for three days). The same family/organisation also operates the Yume Hana restaurant next door and guests of Oyado Yukizumi receive a complimentary beverage service while dining in Yume Hana. The Yukata they provide is very nice and I wore the same to the main Onsens in the area. The staff are very caring and kind hearted, for example, when I was leaving, seeing that it was raining, they asked me to take their umbrella with me (I declined the same). Later, I missed the level of kindness and attention to each individual guest I received while staying here - that is something you will not get from large branded hotels. Thank you, Oyado Yukizumi, I was very touched.

The owner Miki was very kind and helpful, gave us information we need before the trip and on arrival. The room was perfect to me, with great view of another traditional hotel covered with beautiful white snow. We ordered breakfast, which is very delicious and so rich that's good for a brunch 😋 We also tried dinner, very nice and even too much for me. 😆

Kusatsu
Hanaingen is an adult only accommodation situated in Kusatsu, just a 2-minute walk from Yubatake, or the hot water field in Kusatsu Onsen. Free private parking is available on site and free WiFi is available in all guest rooms. This was one of my favourite stays during my trip to Japan! Our twin room was cosy, comfortable and so clean. The beds were the comfiest we had in Japan; I had the most relaxing sleep while staying here. We absolutely loved the breakfast we had, and everyone at the hotel was so kind and friendly. Their hospitality was the highlight of the trip! We stayed two nights and the chef made us a different meal each morning, and took us through the dishes as he brought them to us, and we were given delicious welcome sweets and matcha when we arrived. The breakfast room was so cosy with a fireplace and free coffee and tea. The location is excellent and easy to find; it was only a couple of minutes walk to the bus terminal and to the Yubatake, which is where most of the shops and restaurants are located. The four private onsen are also wonderful. We got to try out two, and we never found that we had to wait or miss out on using one of them when we wanted to. I loved the little baskets containing towels, pyjamas and toiletries that we were given. There are plenty of toiletries available in each of the onsen, and the pyjamas were so comfortable I wish I could have brought a pair home!

Located in Minakami in the Gunma region, Nakaya Ryokan provides accommodation with free WiFi and free private parking, as well as access to a hot spring bath. This 3-star ryokan offers luggage storage space and a housekeeping service. The ryokan features family rooms. Wow! It was fantastic. The staff were lovely. We got to choose from a variety of patterns of yakata (robes) which was really special. The room (with an ensuite toilet and sink!) was massive. We were provided with 5 futons so we could pile them on top of each other, great for westerners used to softer beds. This made it comfortable. The homemade tiramisu we ordered on arrival was so tasty. The cup challenge for free juice was fun. And best of all, the private onsen experience! We booked 2 time slots (as it was quiet), one in the stone bath and one in the wooden bath. We loved both, but the stone bath was nicest.

Perfect location, very clean flat, very comfortable - we spent a really nice evening in town and enjoyed the festival. The appartment is adorable and the owner was extremely friendly - as were the people in town. It was a memorable stay!
The food was really good and the meals were large, so worth the price. The room was beautiful and clean, and staff were kind and helpful. The bath locations and temperature had variation, to meet all kinds of needs. Location itself was beautiful as well and the locals were friendly, definitely recommend walking around. There is a small town, dam, and a beautiful lake upstream of the river as well as a couple small shrines along the way.
Good location. Low price.
Great river view and location at the riverside of Tone River.
Breakfast and dinner is exceptional - serving all local specialties. Location - slightly uphill for the main street but they have the secret pathway from hotel direct to Yubatake which is perfect and a short walk to Sai-no Kawara park. Perfect place for the day walk around Kusatsu.

last minute booking, all of the hotel at kusatsu onsen are fully booked, I did not expect much. However the hotel end up quite good. Spacious room especially for the 3 bed room. The bed come with heated blanket. Free wifi but nowadays all hotel have free wifi. Good location, hotel located in between Bus station and yubatake (city center)
The location is very nice, not to far away from the center of Kusatsu Onsen. It is perfect for people travelling on a budget. The beds are quite confortable.
The staff were wonderful. The location was close to the bus station and not a long walk to the city centre. The private onsen was the best.
