Just 250 metres from Zenko-ji Temple, Matsuya Ryokan offers simple Japanese rooms with tatami-mat floors, a green-tea maker and an attached Western bathroom. The hotel features public baths. Nous avons adoré ce ryokan très traditionnel et peu cher comparé à d'autres que nous avons testés: une vraie expérience authentique au pied du temple Zenko-ji! La chambre était spacieuse, les futons n'encombraient pas la chambre et étaient installés pendant notre souper. Les petits détails comme le thermos de thé et les pyjamas étaient très appréciés. Le petit déjeuner japonais était très bon et le service excellent. C'était un de nos meilleurs souvenirs du Japon et nous y retournerions sans hésiter!

We had such a wonderful stay! The house is not only beautiful but also exceptionally clean and comfortable. We especially recommend dining at the restaurant—the curry was truly one of the best I’ve ever had.

Appartement really spacious for Japanese standards, modern, clean, well equipped. Location not very near to train station, but easy (and affordable!) to catch a taxi at the train station. We came by car; free parking available. Quiet location, large supermarket nearby. Matsumoto is a great travellers' hub for day trips nearby.

Shiroganeya is a traditional Japanese minshuku. Our host Maki-san was truly exceptional. She made sure our family of 6 were well-fed, well-rested, and well-prepared for our little hike to the main Togakushi shrine, which is a 7-min drive away. The dinner prepared for us was superb as well - at least 7-courses! I liked that the house itself has a lot of history. Dinner is served with precious chinaware that are more than a century-old, but still in very good shape and colour. There is adequate heating throughout the house, especially important for a cold winter stay. Maki-san also had a stash of toy cars and trains that kept our boy occupied. There’s just so much to rave about this place. Hopefully we’ll be back for a second visit!

You cannot wish for better hosts than Chikako and Koji san. From the moment of booking until after we left Hakuba they’ve made us feel welcome at their beautiful guesthouse. Other than that the location of the guesthouse provides great access to different ski resorts in Hakuba valley. After a day of skiing there’s no better way to relax than in the warm baths waiting for you at the guesthouse. Also, do not forget to try Chikako’s hotpot: 10 out of 10! Truly one of the highlights of our time in Japan. The building, rooms, and onsen are incredible and the hospitality can't be beat. We were caught in a rainstorm before our scheduled pickup and the owners so kindly dried our sopping wet clothes and shoes. After that, we warmed up in the onsen which left our skin feeling so smooth and headed to a delicious and expansive dinner. We finished the night falling asleep to the roaring sound of the waterfall due to the heavy rains. We'll definitely be back.

Spacious room, liked the massage chair, nice views of the forest. We saw deers and raccoon dogs from the hotel. The only thing to be aware of is that there are no bathrooms attached to the rooms, showering is reserved to the onsen, toilet and sink are in the room.

The entire experience was wonderful, totally unique, like nothing we've ever done before. The food was amazing, I am vegetarian and they made an extra special effort to make sure that I had just as good food as my meat and fish eating husband. The onsens were great, very relaxing.
