What an amazing experience, this is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in! Convenient location right next to the train station and a short walk to the chair lift, makes this hotel an ideal location for a short ski trip from Tokyo. The rooms were large, modern and spacious with lovely traditional details throughout, and great views across the mountains. The Onsen was beautiful and the whole hotel was very clean and exceptionally maintained. After finishing in the Onsen, the complimentary ice cream was a lovely added bonus. Would recommend to anyone visiting Japan for a luxury stay for a short weekend skiing!

Objective #2 was met: we had four very good days of skiing, in various conditions. As for objective #1, Komatsuya helped exceed our expectations: David (the owner) kindly drove us around wherever we needed to go, Izumi-san cooked wonderful Japanese food for breakfast and dinner, and Yukiko-san introduced us to the local attractions and helped us with the schedule and reservations. The room was clean and spacious and the onsen was an outstanding way to wrap up our skiing days. But beyond all this, we felt like we gained a new family in Japan. We will remember our stay at Komatsuya very fondly because of David and his team and, should we come back to ski in Japan again, I can't imagine staying anyplace else.

There is a shared lounge at this property and guests can go hiking nearby. breakfast was excellent, it didn't seem much at first but once you started, the flavor of the different vegetables accompanied by the selected rice was incredible. Also loved the sake pairing of our French dinner.
