Bicycles can get you to all the main sites without advanced skill, though 15 minute ride-segments to reach it all. We didn't use taxis except to the Bulguksa Buddhist temple about 20 minutes outside of town, definitely worth the trip. Room is clean, breakfast gives a variety of Korean & western options, coffee machine available 24 hours/day. Don't miss the local market (Jungang), with night food stalls from 6-11 pm. $9 buys you a plastic tray with 4 options from different stalls, amazing variety of Korean delicacies. Small rooms, no facilities, doesn't matter because it's a comfortable room to sleep and you'll be out on this UNESCO museum of a city all day anyway. We've been twice and checked out other comparable hotels, nothing came close. For the average tourist, two nights covers this city well, one night is not enough.
