South AfricaOur stay at Swartkop Cottage was an unforgettable experience. The accommodation is situated near the Tugela River, which offers a breathtaking view. The constant flow of water and the chirping of birds create a peaceful and serene atmosphere.
If you are feeling overwhelmed by city life and in need of a place to unwind and rejuvenate, this location may be an ideal destination for you. The absence of human presence and the lack of modern conveniences, such as electricity and network connectivity, can provide a complete escape from the hustle and bustle of urban life.
The cottage is equipped with solar-powered lighting, ensuring reliable illumination when used judiciously. Water is drawn from the nearby river, and a highly efficient donkey boiler provides hot water, surpassing the performance of any geyser I have encountered. Drinking water is supplied separately. Cooking and refrigeration are facilitated by gas, ensuring that essential amenities are available despite the rustic setting. The well-designed braai area was a delight to use, enhancing the overall experience.
If you are going to leave doors and windows open, you should monitor them, as snakes and other creatures may try to enter. We encountered many harmless snakes. We were warned about the Mozambique Cobra, and fortunately, we did not encounter one.
Although some individuals may find this environment unappealing, I genuinely encourage anyone reading this review to venture out and experience it for themselves. After all, this is South Africa, and it is a truly remarkable place to be.
