A Walker's Paradise Filled with Charming Surprises
Once a capital of the Western Roman Empire, Ravenna is a walker’s paradise and is home to several historical landmarks, magnificent mosaics, great fashion outlets, and charming streets lined with cafés, restaurants and bars.
Piazza del Popolo is considered the heart of Ravenna and was historically the civil and administrative centre of the city. It features the 15th-century Palazzetto Veneziano, the 17th-century Palazzo Comunale, and the 18th-century clock tower.
The most popular landmarks in the city are San Vitale, Mausoleo di Galla Placida, Basilica of Sant'Apollinare Nuovo and Dante Alighieri’s Tomb, whilst the Cervia Thermal Baths and Mirabilandia theme park are great options for a day trip.
After a day of discovery and sightseeing, be sure to head towards the coast for a revitalising swim or relaxing sun bathe at one of the several beaches scattered along the coastline of the Adriatic Sea.
Ravenna Station offers direct routes to Bologna and Rimini. Booking.com offers a range of accommodation options in Ravenna, Cervia, Milano Marittima and throughout the Emilia-Romagna Region.

The old town where the many restaurants and shops reside is 5 or 10 minutes walk from the train station. The Maison 26 family owned hotel was outstanding. The old town is very walkable and beautiful. Cabs are scarce so book ahead if wanting transportation to cruise ship.

Ravenna was better than I expected.
Ravenna was better than I expected. We arrived by cruise ship and instead of rushing off to another city (Venice or Bologna) we chose to spend one night in Ravenna. Accomodations were near the train station and the historic churches and sites. Ravenna has beautiful mosaics in several locations and a well organized tour pass system that is easy to access.

Wonderful place! It was so very pretty and historic. The city allows you to visit the museum of Alighieri Dante, one of the most important poet in Italy's culture. Also you can visit the Dante Alighieri's tomb. The city have a lot of bar to drink, seat and listen music, restaurants to eat the excellent and traditional italian food (for example piadina).

Ravenna is a beautiful place to visit.
Ravenna is a beautiful place to visit. It's easy to get around the town center and there are a lot of places to eat--across all price ranges.
So many beautiful mosaics. It's worth taking a tour for these. We did a guided tour with Silvia Giogoli at guidaravenna.com and it was worth the cost. She is so knowledgable about the history of the city and the mosaics in particular. Really gives you a better appreciation of the art.
If they block the guide's name and website, it was the guided walking tour offered via the booking site called Mosaic Tiles Guided Tour.

It is worthwhile to just walk in a meaningless way to enjoy the city and its people. The people are very friendly and very helpful.

One full day in Ravenna was perfect for visiting the amazing Byzantine mosaics. Be sure to go to Sant' Apollinare Nuovo to get your tickets to the various sites--two require a timed entry, so have your day planned. All of the mosaics are wonderful and well worth seeing, but our favorites were the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia behind the Basilica, and Cappella di Sant'Andrea inside the Archiepiscopal Museum. Dante's Tomb was neat, as were the mosaics under water at the Basilica di San Francesco. And off the main tourist trail is the little Arian Baptistry. . . heck, you gotta see 'em all!
To get the most out of seeing these treasures, read up on the Arian Heresy and the conflict between the Goths/Arians and the Justinian Christians. Different hidden symbols everywhere. There's a short summary in the Rick Steve's tour guides that's helpful.
And when you're tired of mosaics, stop at the covered market for some amazing food. It would be a great "half-way" point for lunch (wish we'd known).
The staff were fantastic. Everything from check-in to check-out and holding our luggage while we spent the late morning/early afternoon exploring Ravenna. Funky hotel with interesting art. Very good continental breakfast. MASSIVE cappuccinos; swimming pool-sized. Chilled fridge with wine to help yourself. A 2 block walk to excellent restaurants and a short distance further to the sights. Parking is super cheap at a lot down the street. Just remember to go before 8 AM and buy your ticket. 0.35 per hour from 8AM to 6PM.
This is a lovely facility--great bed, handsome room. There are beautifully furnished common rooms--lounge and library--to hang out and read, a courtyard and a good breakfast. The location is dead center in town--could not be better. The staff were wonderful. There were no taxis or Ubers available on a Saturday morning to get us from the train station. Hotel had sent a welcome message, so I messaged back to say we were stuck and they found a car for us, also one of Ravenna's few taxis the next morning.
The apartment was exceptional in every way! Fully modern & updated. Cleanliness of the highest standard. Location in a quiet residential neighborhood, but easy walk to the center. Giulia & Maria were responsive to requests in a timely manner. Both were gracious and accommodating. We were able to leave our luggage for a few hours after check-out. If you are thinking of renting this apartment, don’t hesitate. It is a true gem in Ravenna,
A special “Grazie” to Maria for being so helpful,
We loved this hotel! The room was spacious, quiet, spotless, and very comfortable. The breakfast was excellent - some of the best variety and quality we’ve had at a hotel in Italy. And the staff we wonderful! It was my birthday while we were there, and I didn’t mention it, but the staff must have noted it from my passport at check in. On my birthday at breakfast they brought me a cake!! They totally went above and beyond. Would highly recommend this hotel!
This was my third stay at Hotel Byron. I find it a very friendly hotel, and it is ideally placed for exploring Ravenna, 10 minutes from the railway station and very close to the churches of the mosaic circuit. I had a single room, as I was travelling with a friend. I had plenty of space and my room was well-equipped. My bed was comfy and I had a good bathroom with a shower. Buffet breakfast is excellent. Highly recommended.
I appreciated the comfort of the room. Air conditioning was silent and working correctly. Bathroom had everything that was needed. Location was perfect! 5 mins from city center also 5 mins from train station and 1 min from supermarket! Staff use english fluently (which is rarity in Italy). Also, staff is very helpful 24/7. Breakfast consists of various fruits, breads, cakes, joghurts etc. Approved!!!
it is the third time I am visiting this hotel and I can say that is a reason to go again in Ravenna.
The breakfast is amazing with fresh fruits in the middle of the winter
The lounge that is free to stay as long as you like has a relaxing atmosphere and a suitable music all day
Even though Ravenna has so many things to do and visit this hotel can keep you there and spend the day relaxing
If you are going to Ravenna, that's the place where you just have to stay. Our room was so big comfortable and beautiful, we had everything we needed and even more. Bathroom was huge and cozy, bed very comfortable and location simply perfect. Breakfast so good, fresh and beautifully served. It exceeded our expectations, the best stay we ever stayed in Italy! I was so sad we had to leave!
Beautiful apartment, well equipped, and perfect for a family. In walking distance from the center of Ravenna. The apartment is on the 2nd floor in a building with no elevator, but we could lock the baby stroller in a room on the ground floor, which was very helpful. The host was very friendly, helpful, and flexible regarding arrival time.
The hotel was centrally located and had real charm. Our room was large and comfortable and we had the bonus of a small terrace which was lovely to sit outside in the evenings. The host was very friendly, made sure that he was there for our check in, gave us useful information about Ravenna and made us feel very welcome.
We felt as if we were staying in the home of a genial uncle with an eclectic, fun sense of design…not the usual canned decor of a hotel chain. The staff is helpful and gracious. Breakfast is delicious. And, it is walking distance to all the amazing UNESCO world heritage churches and baptisteries of Ravenna.
Perfect location close to all the sites. The owner was very helpful. He recommended a great restaurant and showed us the closet laundry, which is right across the street. This little bunny greeted us every day out in the garden. If visiting Ravenna, this is the best place to stay!
NH Ravenna is a nice hotel close to the train terminal. Walking distance from the pick up point for cruise shuttles (to be booked and payed with different companies asked in the reception) this shuttle will take you to the port of Ravenna. Hotel is old but clean and comfortable
Lovely room in a great location. I had to stand at the door in a narrow street for quite a while before finally reaching owner by phone to get into property. Parking is available, but not easy. Best breakfast we have had in 10 days in Italy!
Hotel S. Andrea is a stone’s throw from the ticket office for UNESCO sites and from S. Vitale itself. This was chance or luck for me, and I appreciated it. This is a charming boutique hotel with very friendly staff. I felt cared for.
We have been three weeks all over in Italy and this was our last accommodation on this trip. But even when I look back on my many many other stays, that was by far the best B&B we have had. All points in all categories.
Everything was just excellent !!!
The most elegant hotel , you feel like you are at home .
Stylish , clean , comfortable , great location , very nice staff , wonderful breakfast . Best place to stay in Ravenna .
The staff is very helpful and cooperative and kind. The breakfast includes a wide variety on Continental options but not eggs and bacon since we are in Italy and you may find pizza
Breakfast was very good and personnel very helpful.
Location, very close to the main sites in Ravenna
The room was spacious and the bathroom was large and modern
