Matsushima
Featuring free property-wide WiFi, a spa centre and a seasonal outdoor pool, Matsushima Ichinobo offers accommodation in Matsushima. The ryokan has a hot spring bath and sauna, and guests can enjoy a drink at the bar. Free private parking is available on site. The room (I had the basic level option) was gigantic for Japan, with a huge picture window and a view to die for. To say I was blown away upon arrival would be an understatement. The hotel is spacious and uncrowded. I suspect it caters almost exclusively to the Japanese market so some instructions were on rather informal notes, or simply only in Japanese. The rate is breakfast and dinner included but also includes unlimited alcohol from 7pm and coffee/tea/refreshments all day with an icecream bar in the late morning and afternoon. The silence and sleep quality was superb as was the bathroom with shower.
Aizuwakamatsu
Japanese-style rooms have a tatami (woven-straw) floor and traditional futon bedding, while Western rooms come with beds and an en suite bathroom. All rooms are air-conditioned and fitted with an LCD TV and a fridge. - Very charming ryokan conveniently situated within walking distance from the JR Nanokamachi station and in close proximity to attractions like the Noguchi Hideyo Seishun Street and the Suehiro Sake Brewery. - The meals (dinner and breakfast) were the highlight of my stay. Having told the staff in advance that I had food allergies, they went above and beyond to servemeals for me that were safe for me to eat but also very delicious. The variety of dishes served was impressive. The staff also offered to create onigiri (rice balls) out of my unfinished breakfast. - The staff were very warm and accommodating and their interactions with guests contributed to the ryokan's very homely atmosphere. As a thoughtful gesture they gave me an akabeko keychain upon checkout as a souvenir - The private hinoki bath was a delight (note: you have to book it in advance during check-in) - The futon in my room was exceptionally fluffy and I slept really well

Surrounded by sacred mountains and untouched nature, Tamonkan is housed in a historic Japanese-style building. Complimentary tea and snacks are served to welcome guests. Dewa Shrine is located an 8-minute walk away. Free WiFi is available in all areas. Amazing food and beautiful traditional ryokan. Dinner was one of the best meals I have eaten anywhere in my life. The owner's wife and mother prepared and beautifully presented a perfect Japanese dinner, and breakfast (Japanese) was also incredible. Our room was the oldest (100 years) but the whole place dripped with authenticity and good taste. We stayed in early January and it was very cold in the hallways but rooms had gas heaters to keep you cozy. The walk from the front door to the top of Mount Haguro was about an hour and a half with deep compacted snow covering the famous 2446 steps. A truly memorable experience.

We loved our stay at Matsuo House. Taka, Oraphin and Yuuchan were amazing hosts. They were so welcoming and made us feel right at home. The rooms are traditiinL tatami rooms, futon beds. The lodge is right beside one of the public onsens and close to the chairlifts. Highlight of our ski trip to Japan. We will be back. Especially loved our morning greetings from 3 yo Yuuchan - "sleep well?" We sure did. Xx
It’s well located. Close to the most famous onsen in Zao. The rooms are typical ryokan room, but I had to set my own futon. Onsen are great too
A traditional japanese style ryokan, with all the bells and whistles: tatami floor, futon beds, yukata, own onsen. The room was lovely, the food tasty and the owners extremely friendly. Can only recommend.
This Ryokan has one of the best hot spring water in Japan. It’s our fourth time to come visit here, and I always cannot appreciate enough everything about this Ryokan. Best Onsen, food is fabulous and staff members are super kind. We will surely come back as always.
This is a gorgeous Japanese inn (Ryokan). The lady who runs it speaks good English and is very kind, friendly and helpful, as are the staff. The room was beautiful and I slept comfortably on my futon after a dip in the private bath. I had breakfast in the morning and it was one of the best Japanese breakfasts I’d had and so beautifully presented. The hotel is a 15 min walk from the station and therefore, within a 15 min walk there are quite a few places to eat. The owner can help you with all the recommendations of Aizu Wakamatsu too.
Comfy rooms, fresh sheets, yukata. Tatami mats are clean and comfy. Friendly couple and cute dogs!! We felt very welcome. Please use „Takagimachi“ if you come by train and have luggage, better streets/concrete and space on the sidewalk. Best thing: tattoo-friendly Onsen on 3rd floor!!!
The atmosphere and ambiance are very peaceful. This is a place to stay if you want to have a nice ryokan and onsen experience. Everything is basically straightforward. Staff is not proficient in english, but if you use google Translate, that will help. The food was great with japanese traditional breakfast and dinner. The whole experience was excellent. The onsen was also good. So if you like onsen, most likely, this is a place to go.
Lovely traditional Ryokan with meals cooked and served sitting on the tatami floor around an Irori sunken fire. The staff attended to cooking the various courses over the hot coals and even breakfast was cooked this way. It was delicious and a great experience. Nice onsen and lovely staff and nostalgic old building.
Onsen (outdoors is best I think, you over look the waterfall and in our case falling snow). Ryokan style / tatami sleeping arrangements. Generous sized room.
