El Puerto, as it’s commonly called, is located just in front of Cádiz, offering golden sandy beaches kissed by the mixed waters of the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. A lively harbour town, beach resort, rich legacy, and a lot of sun and fun make El Puerto de Santa María a great spot for your holiday.
According to legend, the city was founded around the year 1184 BC by the Athenian King Menestheus, just after the Trojan War. Phoenicians, Romans and Arabs occupied this area, as the reminders of the Phoenician settlement of ‘Doña Blanca’ show. Centuries later, commerce with the Americas brought new life and wealth to the city.
Perfumed by orange tree blossoms, the Old Town is adorned with Baroque architecture and cobblestone streets. Some of the most beautiful hotels and B&Bs in El Puerto de Santa María can be found in this area. The most popular beaches are La Puntilla, Valdelagrana, and La Muralla, and hotels near El Puerto beaches are a popular choice.

A small town with plenty of history, particularly of the Sherry trade (Osborne in particular). Small enough to walk around comfortably, though there seemed to be no shortage of taxis. Uncrowded (late April). Many good restaurants and bars. Very convenient for travel to Cadiz and Jerez.

This was a great clean hotel, with a really comfortable and spacious room. The minibar was a nice addition, and not excessively priced, though admittedly very limited options. We came to the town from Cadiz. There is no comparison. The town is busy but not trendy as claimed in all the media. You can find a good restaurant or two if you do the legwork. The harbour is not on the sea but on the river. We didn't think it worthwhile to try the beach. We will can't see what all the fuss is about and will stick to Cadiz in future

Loved the concept of the “Honest Bar” which was a communal area for coffee/tea/snacks/cold drinks. We were there for a local wedding at the Castillo San Marcos (only 2 mins walk from the hotel) and we would highly recommend staying here if you would like to give Puerto de Santa Maria a visit. Location is very central within walking distance to many shops, restaurants and train station.

Beautiful building, friendly staff, large clean rooms with balcony, swimming pool and a great breakfast. Secure underground parking for my motorcycle as no on-street parking available. El Puerto de Santa Maria is a beautiful old town, plenty of sights, bars, restaurants and shops, with a vibrant evening culture. Costs 3 euros to take the waterbus over to Cadiz, marine station is 10 mins walk from the hotel. Highly recommended.

The hotel really looks beautiful from the outside like in the pictures but the room ("suite") was terrible. Acoustic insulation does not exist. Cheap parquet. With the market next door and cafes right beneath - an excellent combination. El Puerto de Santa Maria is a wonderful town full of fantastic "palacios" from 17- 18th century. For this hotel I recommend to make sure that you stay in the room that has windows facing the street and not the internal patio, it is really worth paying a bit extra.
